Seven Organic Skin Care Tips for Fall and Winter

By zoe | Dec 19, 2009

The harshest times of year on our skin are fall and winter. The skin needs extra care during these seasons to keep it moisturized. Follow these fall and winter organic skin care tips to help your skin stay healthy and radiant throughout the holiday season and into the New Year.

1. Consume Plenty of Water

Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated. Take a bottle of water, tea or juice with you when you go outside of your home. When it’s cold, hot herbal tea can work miracles. Drinking copious amounts of liquids will hydrate your skin enough that you will maintain a healthy glow on even the coldest winter days.

2. Exfoliate Regularly to Remove Dead Skin Cells

Keep your skin feeling fresh by using a facial or body scrub to remove dead skin cells. Expensive products aren’t necessary. Create an exfoliant recipe by using items you can find in your kitchen.

3. Use Organic Moisturizers

Moisturize your skin after exfoliating it. There are various all natural, organic skin moisturizers available. These contain none of the harsh chemical preservatives that might do more harm than good to your skin.

4. Remember to Wear Sunscreen

You need to apply sunscreen when you’re going outdoors even if it’s not in the heat of summer. A sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15 is necessary. Organic sunscreens are available. Additionally, some sunscreens also contain moisturizing agents. Good sunscreens are able to protect your skin from the elements.

6. Wear Gloves When You’re Out and About

When she insisted you wear gloves in the winter, your mom knew what she was talking about. Don’t leave home in the cold without a pair of gloves. Look for gloves made of hemp or other organic material. In addition to protecting your skin from harsh elements, gloves also keep your hands warm and dry.

6. Take an Organic Oil Bath

An organic oil bath can hydrate your skin as well as relax you. For instance, a lavendar bath nourishes the skin while relaxing the body and calming the senses. A few drops of the oil in your bath water will do wonders for you after a tiring day at the office (or, in case of the Christmas Season, the mall).

7. Protect your Lips with Organic Lip Balm

Your lips are more likely to chap in the fall and winter. This is not just because of the cold – our use of indoor heaters during cold weather is one cause of chapped lips. Use an organic lip balm to help stave off chapping.. Make sure you keep a balm in your purse or pocket. After all, you never know when you’ll need one. If you’ve suffered from chapped lips, then you know lip balm is something you should never be without.
