I’d like to drop some weight, but how long must I be on a diet? Whether it is for weight loss or health reasons, the same questions arise. What diet should I go, or which are the right foods to eat and the ones to avoid. I’ll explain to you how long you need to stay on a diet to get the best results.
So what’s the real answer? The simple answer would be for as long as it takes for you to reach your weight loss goals. Well that might be the simple answer, but the truth is its wrong. When most people think about dieting they plan on doing it for a short time and then going back to their old eating habits. The problem with this is, if they go back to their old eating habits all their hard work dieting will be undone.
The true answer is: make a healthy diet a new habit, where you do it for life. Diets need to be life-long habits instead of short-term problem solvers. It needs to be a real lifestyle transformation.
This common mistake is generally the reason why post dieters end up gaining more weight than they just lost.
After loosing weight is necessary to follow a similar, if not quite as restricted, diet for the rest of your life if you want to maintain your weight loss. It’s the end to dipping into the cookie jar anytime you feel the craving.
The post dieter’s daily diet must contain the amount of energy necessary to support the leaner shape. If calories are in excess, that excess gets stored within the fat cells which in turn adds pounds to the weight scales.
Poor eating habits made you gain weight to begin with. Be sure not to ruin the progress you’ve made by repeating the same things you used to do.
Keep in mind that weight maintenance doesn’t come easily and requires savvy monitoring and patience similar to weight loss.
